Hemi

Hemi and his son, Tebow, came to BARC after being abandoned and left without food and water for three weeks. Poor Hemi was abandoned tied to a tree with a cable. The cable became wrapped around his leg and cut off his circulation. Needless to say, their former owner is being charged with animal cruelty. Investigators said it was one of the worse cases of animal cruelty they had ever seen. These dogs came from Alabama, a state in which BARC usually doesn't operate, but animal control and law enforcement were determined to get them into a rescue program and we responded due to the urgency of the situation and the desire to work together with law enforcement and animal control to see a maximum sentence enforced on the offender.

Hemi is estimated to be between 5-6 years old and has an excellent temperament despite the extreme neglect he has suffered. In addition to being severely emaciated, he had hookworms, heartworms, and anemia. But he's a gorgeous healthy boy now and ready for his forever home! Hemi's leg is completely healed though it will never have hair where the tie out cut his leg.

Hemi wants nothing more than to be in the company of his humans. He's so happy he gets to be inside now - warm and dry and with a full tummy twice a day! He's not too crazy about storms and he recognizes fire ants by their smell. Being tied out in all kinds of weather and unable to move far from pests of all kinds has taught him to be cautious outside and he gets nervous when he hears thunder.

He gets along well with his foster brother, but because he loves to play hard, he'd be best placed with a dog his own size rather than small dogs, and he should not be placed with cats.

Hemi is being fostered by Karen and Joe in Tallahassee, FL.

Boxer kisses to Karla and Glenn Havlina of Milton, FL for sponsoring Hemi! [Back]
